The Common Sense Charter

We have our Common Sense Charter so everyone understands the basic principles upon which we base our working ethos.

It is important that you know you have a safety-net in the rare event you are feeling unfairly treated. That is why we want you to let us know is you are not happy with our service or something is causing you concern. We will look to understand the issue and where we can rectify the situation.

We have our Common Sense Charter so everyone understands the basic principles upon which we base our working ethos.

The obvio Common Sense Charter:

    1. obvio never takes commissions, hidden or otherwise. Some plans require a commission to be paid and this is normally for tax-planning reasons. If a commission-based plan is required then obvio will tell you the amount of commission to be paid and rebate the full amount to you directly.

    2. Any charges we make must have been agreed by you and you must have signed a document confirming the amount you pay and when you pay it. If you haven’t signed anything, digitally or otherwise, then please report it to us. You won’t be charged anything unless you’ve agreed to it.

    3. Investments carry an inherent risk. We can do the best due diligence in the world but if the markets go down, they go down. If they go up, they go up. Normally over the long term they go up. Past performance is no guarantee of future performance and there’s a chance you might get back less than you originally invested. We will let you know of any risks when you become a Client and will ask for your signed agreement to any risk factors.

    4. Lock-in periods. These are terms which state that you may incur financial penalties if you decide to close your account within a certain timeframe. We prefer not to use these types of accounts, however clients may choose them to combat their lack of discipline which leads to poor savings habits. obvio prefer alternative ways to help you save without lock-in periods, but hey you’re in charge & will know what works best for you. If you have a lock in period within your Plan you will have signed explicitly that you want it. If you haven’t please report it us, we need to know.

    5. If any obvio employee states they can make you rich, they’re lying and please report it to us. There’s no such thing as a free lunch and if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. obvio exists to give you peace of mind and to broaden your horizons in relation to what your preferred future looks like.

    6. Entry and Exit Fees. obvio charges in the same way as any UK bank or institution in that we receive an Initial Fee and then an Ongoing Fee for looking after you. Unless explicitly agreed by you in writing, you should never be penalised for leaving as you will have paid when you opened any accounts. If you find yourself in this situation, please get in touch with us, we need to know.

    7. We understand how important your privacy is and we will never share your information with any anybody else unless explicitly agreed by you; and only then in the interest of helping you find your Happy. On rare occasions we may be obliged to share your data with Authorities, but apart from that we will only use your data to help provide our Service. If you decide to part ways with us, we will only hold on to your data for as long as is required legally. All data is held under General Data Protection Regulations 2018.

    8. If you receive e-mails you don’t want, just tell us and we will remove you from our database. If you receive a call from us you don’t want; don’t shout at us, just ask us to remove you from the list. You can manage all of your email preferences using the preferences link in any emails you have received from us. If a problem persists then let us know and we will get it sorted for you. By the same token, if you’re a Client and we call you, it’s normally important so please ring us back if you can’t answer, we don’t call you unless we think you need to speak with us.

    9. obvio are Lifestyle Financial Planners. We exist to help you achieve your Happy, whatever that may look like for you. Often, during our relationship with you, we may need to ask specialists to give a second opinion on our advice. We do this to give both you, and ourselves, peace of mind that the advice you are receiving is correct especially if we are discussing life changing options such as pension transfers, estate plans and taxation. obvio will normally pay any third party for their help but on occasion you may be asked to contribute. obvio will never make any profit from such arrangements and will never be paid or incentivised to use a particular company. It’s just that sometimes we have to. You will be made aware of any third party involvement, how much it will cost (if anything) and the reasons why we feel the need to ask for assistance and then ask you to acknowledge and agree. If you don’t agree to it then we don’t do it.

It’s not an exhaustive Charter of Common Sense but we thought you’d like to know the way obvio addresses the most common problems you might face in the world of offshore finance and planning.

Please simply e-mail us on [email protected] and we will look further into the points you raise.
